“Creek at the Gorge” is a studio painting based on a hiking trail along the Columbian Gorge in Oregon.
As in most of my paintings, I usually strive to present the mood of the scene without figures. In this special case I wanted the viewer to wonder what the other side of the falls looked like, hence the figure of the hiker. Although I am an avid admirer of the late great George Inness who always included figures in his “civilized landscapes”, I am usually hesitant to include any. A mental block? Maybe...as I realized the artwork is now more an “illustration” than a pure landscape. You be the judge? This painting is included with a recycled frame that may be kept intact with the work or discarded. Whenever feasible I ship my work with a frame for added protection unless asked to do so otherwise.
