I wanted to paint a new painting based on an older painting using some of the same elements. The original scene was loosely based on an actual scene but was mostly from imagination. I kept the same concept of a road leading past a house sheltered by a grove of trees. I simplified the foreground a bit to keep the focus on the house and trees. I'm not saying it is better than the original, just that I wanted to paint a scene I liked again in a different way.
I wanted this painting to evoke a mix of feelings in addition to country comfort and wide open spaces, including loneliness, anticipation, and a bit of mystery of what lies ahead. Will you follow the path and explore the homestead or will you continue on down the road? From whence have you come, to where do you go?
