This is part of my collection of landscape paintings. These are all made from my own mind, based on all my knowledge of light, nature, composition, and sometimes some reference photos. I start the paintings by covering the canvas with various brush strokes, until i see an image in my mind, and from there I start to build the picture. This is painted in a Tonalist style, which is the forerunner of Impressionism. Tonalism consists of the dissolving of forms into the atmosphere and light of the landscape, of suggestion rather than representation, which guides the viewer into the mystery and deep peace of nature.
In my view of Tonalism, I try to dissolve forms and create light and atmospheric effects, but at the same time, I want the painting to look absolutely real, with natural colours. In general in Art, all realistic paintings must respect what is called the "viewing distance". This is the distance from which the painting will make sense in terms of perspective. Therefore I work to make my paintings look real and true to nature in terms of detail, when viewed from the minimum distance designated.
