Artist's description:

Homage to Kandinsky

This is one of my latest abstract fluid paintings, created on canvas using poured acrylic paints & media. I’m truly impressed by how amazing this painting technique is. The process of creating is almost magical, as lines, shapes and colors flow, move, mix, morph, fuse together, appear to form and rearrange before one’s eyes, seemingly by itself, resembling the great Walt Disney’s masterpiece “Fantasia”. There’s great deal of creative freedom and spontaneity in this process and the results can be highly unpredictable and surprising. Still, there’s some preparation (selection of colors, pre–mix, etc) and some tweaking/ paint manipulation in a number of different ways along the way is required from an artist. And every painting comes out completely unique: no two are alike.

At this stage, I like using this fluid painting technique in combination with some others and as such techniques and tools (sticks, etc) to move and manipulate the image, following the spirit movements of the moment. After the paint is completely dried, I may add some additional touches (to the painted center itself, surrounding unpainted surface, or both) to emphasize the contrast, embellish, add graphical element, etc. Thus, the final result may qualify as mixed media in some cases.

“Cosmic Soup” is my original fluid abstract acrylic painting on 16”x20” (staples out of sight at the back), stretched, cotton canvas. This painting somewhat differs from my other fluid paintings. Here the paint covers pretty much all surface and there's some contrast between the almost solid, heavy, neutral colored background and the vast variety of different little things –– vividly colorful, dynamic and funky graphical –– that inhabit it. It's like a whole different world out there: perhaps, "primordial cosmic soup", from which all forms of material life came from, or closer look on some microbiological level of existence.

I used permanent markers to trace/ outline color-shapes, which is one of my favorite technique, adding graphical (almost graffiti–like) qualities to the painting.

Colors: yellow, orange, copper, blue, turquoise, gold, red, black (outline)

The painting is ready to hang and finished in UV protective gloss varnish. The sides are painted black so there's no need to frame it. Note: The painting looks gorgeous in real life, much better with my photographs that are could not capture correctly the colors and texture. The last image purposely taken from a distance and on such angle to show the texture/ relief, which can't be seen on other images.

The painting comes signed (initialed) on the front and also with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Materials used:

acrylic paint and media, Sharpie permanent markers (black and gold), acrylic gloss varnish
