I painted this work in 2005 after my walk through the bridge on Bolshoy Ustyinsky Bridge on the Moscow River in the late winter afternoon. View to the river was disturbing and fascinating at the same time. Sun was going to set down and all the city was preparing to dip into the early twilight. Freezing air was helping me to feel some gravity of the moment. Fairy tales took place in my sight in the middle of the noisy city. I tried to reflect this feeling in my painting.
Girl with fruits on the cold bridge metaphors the fragility of human warmth and life in the sight of the beauty of universal beauty, winter nature crowning early sun. As all the Stalin's architecture in Moscow symbolizes the dream, other questions - was it realized and how much it cost.
Apparently it is about that moment when you feel in Russia that days are longer again. You feel groundless optimism because winter gives away its power to the sun.
