Artist's description:

In the 21st century, our idea of marriage has completely changed from the conventional structure. It's no longer confined to the heterosexual relationship but homosexual, bisexual and transsexual relationships have become acceptable. Gender role has also changed. I wonder if this is an inevitable consequence of the human evolution? Or it's just a historic recurrence since we know the ancient civilisations such as Greek and Roman embraced the same habits?

Through this work I produced as one of a series of works for my solo exhibition "'I wandered...' A celebration of the 200th anniversary of the publication of William Wordsworth's 'Daffodil' poem" at Rydal Mount in 2015, I simply question how our human relationship has evolved by depicting a modern day elderly couple in a humorous way. The distance between them on a bench, a couple and a blackbird, and those characters and surrounding flowers at the corner of a green park on a fine day were all carefully determined to create a narrative. This is a conversation about our unique relationships.
