This painting is based on a photograph from a canoeing outing near my home. The wonderful thing about a canoe is the way it quietly glides through the water and doesn't startle the wildlife along the shore. The blue heron was standing in shallow water in an inlet and the light hit him just perfectly to cast his reflection into the green water. Herons are seen as symbols of deep thought and contemplation; thus the name of this work.
