one of the later works in a series entitled "Consignment". The project uses the composition of a tightly constricted figure struggling against the sides of a crate-like space to suggest those high risk strategies employed in acts of global transmigration, either voluntary or coerced, and those often claustrophobic situations into which people are willing to place themselves and/or others, in the [often vain] hope of improving their economic circumstances.
The pictures have no conventional descriptive titles. Rather, they are file numbered by series. This dispassionate system is employed to further emphasize the objectification of the subject matter, where trafficked humanity is reduced to mere commodity.
The work here is presented on a stencilled ply backing board suggestive of 'goods in transit'.
The paintings and prints are all square in format and have all been designed to hang any way up.
