This is another watercolour in my series of artwork inspired by my journeys and childhood in India.
Having spent my childhood in different parts of this fascinating country, I have spent most of my adult life away from there, studying, working, travelling and living in other countries, as a true citizen of the world.
“We travel, some of us forever, to seek other states, other lives, other souls.”
― Anaïs Nin, The Diary of Anaïs Nin, Vol. 7: 1966-1974
This painting represents a spiritual and personal journey to rediscover the connections and roots that I have with the country, and I have therefore titled it 'Coming Home to Roost'.
'Roads go ever ever on,
Under cloud and under star.
Yet feet that wandering have gone
Turn at last to home afar'.- Tolkien
The depiction is loosely based on the famous stone temples of Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh, India which has a fascinating story in itself. If you are not familiar with it, and the group of buildings and the myths surrounding it, I would really recommend you to look it up!
The painting tries to capture the light at dusk in soft, muted colours along with a murmuration of birds that are coming home to roost after their travels to rest their weary feet, heart and soul.
The painting is on strong high quality acid-free watercolour paper with Winsor and Newton paints and permanent ink pens.
SHIPPING: I will sign this on the front, at the bottom, and titled and dated at the back, and will send it, packaged securely in a hard backed envelope, and then wrapped tastefully in a acid-free tissue paper. The artwork is itself secured in a cello sleeve, and the whole package is sent in a bubble wrap thick envelope. I take great pride and enjoyment in wrapping my prints and drawings for the customers and I wish it to be a luxurious and joyful experience to open one of my artworks.
