I have recently started to develop my work and undertake some still life. I realised that apart from the finished painting the work itself had a value to me as an artist in terms of the restraints and discipline enforced on me by the need to observe properly and attempt to record what I saw, rather than interpret.
What I love about this arrangement is the quality of light as it falls on the different objects (coffee pot, fruit and fruit bowl) especially set as it is against quite a sparse background. My main concern here was to produce a work with crisp lines and reflecting the beautiful colour of everyday objects. I think I was fairly successful and there will be more to come.
