Artist's description:

For me, inspiration comes from many places -- the natural world, archaeology, history, science, even cartoons. I love the idea of telling a story in one image.
“Cities in the Dust I” (CitDP) was born from my love of ancient cultures. The entombed city of Pompeii preserved astounding Roman artwork. I began thinking about how to create a bit of that history for myself and others.
CitDP is intended to be beautiful art that can be admired on its visual merits. But if you want to pause a moment longer, ignite your imagination with how the scene came to be -– the heart-tugging moment when even precious belongings become worthless. The emotions I hope this piece stirs in people, like beauty, need little explanation and can be enjoyed by everyone.
I created this piece largely by altering techniques from other art forms and combining them in unique ways.

Materials used:

Venetian plaster, gypsum plaster, paint, wax
