This is an unofficial Broadcast by the Conceptual Art Party
This work is following on from previous work and is a play on words, of “Ben & Jerry’s” Ice-cream, rebranded to “Tom & Jerry’s”, the cat & mouse games. Similarly “Marmite” has been rebranded to “MarsMites”, with Mars referring to similar name of “Mars” bars chocolates, and “Mites” as Bed Mites or Dust Mites, a small parasitic animal, living off another such as “Tom” the Cat. These “Creatures” or animals have been all mixed-up to form a New Brand flavour of Ice Cream. The Title “Circus Creatures” is similar to “Creature Comforts” where Creatures or Animals would speak in front of an Open-Mic, (see “Creature Comforts” or “Chicken Run” etc. by Stop-Animation Aardman Animations, UK). The Creatures have been set inside the contained Can, similar to a Circus Tent, and the “Mites” tiny insects, preforming aerobatic tricks, such as trampoline, etc, allegedly.
In the work "Tom & Jerry's" the Artist has mixed up the Creatures or Animals, to create a New flavour, that would not normally be seen in the Product, that would Shock the Purchaser, from buying the Product, and possibly would Remain on the Shelf, allegedly.
This artwork has been inspired by the recent news that Tesco (UK largest Food Retailer, with Stores worldwide) removes the products by the British-Dutch company Unilever, such as Marmite off its shelves. Tesco is refusing to pay an extra 10% surcharge on Unilever’s products. Unilever has imposed this extra amount to cover the cost of the failing Pound against the Euro, which has fallen 16% since Britain has confirmed that it will leave the European Union.
Other Unilever products that have been removed from shelves, include, Ben & Jerry’s ice-cream, Wall’s ice-cream, Hellmann’s mayonnaise, Flora, Sure deodorant and PG Tips Tea Bags (we British love a good cuppa)
