An oil painting of reclining female nude at a beach, confined by two blocks of bronze color.
This is a painting of Circe, one of the characters in the Odyssey an epic poem attributed to Homer. Circe is the daughter of the sun, a talented sorceress who turns men into pigs. When the ship that carries Odysseus and his crew reaches the shores of her island, only Odysseus escapes this fate because the god Hermes has given him an antidote to her poison. Circe and Odysseus fall in love but eventually Odysseus moves on.
In this painting Circe is shown after Odysseus has left. She is watching the sea that was his escape while she is now a captive of her own island. The bronze blocks at both side of the painting represent her confinement.
This oil painting is a handmade, unique artwork, signed at the back. It is painted on linen, using artist grade oil paints, media and varnish. The painting is composed of several overlapping layers that work together to create a three-dimensional effect. You can find more detailed information on my painting method including a few examples of successive paint layers of a painting in the 'Me at work' section of this website.
The artwork will be shipped in a sturdy cardboard box, secured and wrapped in special laminated bubble wrap to ensure the safety of the painting during transport. Shipping is provided by DPD (Europe, 2-5 days) or PostNL (NL, US, Canada, Australia). For NL, PostNL usually delivers the next day after shipping. Outside the EU, the shipping time depends on the time it takes for the package to go through customs.
The shipment is insured and can be tracked, your signature is requested upon delivery.
