Original artwork description:

This painting explores the lost generations of child labour and inspired by images seen of children working. The child has been isolated from his background, with the focus directly on him and his gaze.

This painting is part of a series of works from current project research, exploring the legacies of ancient, past and contemporary slavery, indentured contractual servitude and the creation of portraits exploring ideas about 'Lost Generations'.

The paintings are deliberately obscuring any evidence of the labour involved and the situation the child worker finds themselves in, focussing mainly on their portrait and their gaze. This explores the hidden reality of past industrialisation and modern globalised capitalism, unpacking questions about mass manufacturing and the global consequences of mass production in the 21st Century.
