This is a painting in acrylic on linen gallery canvas, painted around the edges so it's ready to hang without a frame.
The subject is a stunning Andalucian stallion called 'Ice', a favorite muse of mine! My objective was to convey something of my own experience of being with this horse at a particular moment in time, to deliver a sense of his power and majesty. He represents so many things, and I want to generate a visceral response so that by engaging with this artwork you feel the heat of his body, his snorting breath, and the brush of his tail as he sweeps by at close range, hooves pounding the dust and echoing through your soul...
The background colours - a mix of reds and dark browns shot with gold - give a feeling of opulence, and in different light settings the painting changes in character.
Chasing Shadows and the story of its creation was featured in the April/May 2014 edition of International Artist Magazine.
