Artist's description:

This garden and driveway where Malu used to live, in the artsy Victorian village of Sea Cliff, inspired at least 5 different paintings, Rituals and Summer in the Garden (both 2011) already in private collections in NY, and Sea Cliff Lull (2013 - on Artfinder), O Jardim/ The Garden (2013, on Artmajeur), and a naive-cubism bright colored version sold at an folk art fair in Portugal, Sunny Afternoon (2014). The intricate garden, the wide variety of shapes and plants, the emotions felt at times, mysterious, at times simply the languid stupor of a summer afternoon, moved Malu to painting and exploring it from different angles and moods. The image is gay but not devoid of contrasts, textures, mystery and some shadows which make it complex and not shallow in experience. Malu uses elements of naive art combined with a loose fusion of elements of cubism, she scratches the surface, leaves an area with just a canvas stain and overlays much paint and textures in another area, much is lost in the photographs, the pieces are rich and complex! (Malu lives between NY where she lived most of her life, and her new becoming home, Porto, Portugal)
