One of a series of paintings I am developing based on the seven deadly sins. This image was inspired by the juxtaposition of greenery, brickwork and light in a small enclosed urban space...in Venice. As seen thro’ fragmented glass, the picture mirrors the warped perception that is envy and the blighted, moribund outlook of individual morality.
Although the subject is a bit serious and downbeat (my take on the subject matter cannot be taken lightly) I wanted the image to be bright and counter intuitively uplifting. I wanted it to say look we all suffer from this to some degree but it doesn't have to colour everything we do. We can deal with it and use it to show us how things really are.
The series is necessarily slow in production since I am determined to only use real issues in the timescale in which they occur - currently there is one other completed work on "Anger" and one on "Pride" in its earliest stages.
