Capri was the historic residence of the emperors Augustus and Tiberius who built their imperial residences here. History tells us how all the great artists of the various eras, particularly the painters fascinated by the enchantment of Capri had their hearts taken away by the island. Anacapri and Capri, rich with historical insights have over the years become an exclusive destination for the international jet set. From the most famous "piazzetta" in the world, a living room for the jet set, to the noteworthy  Via Camerelle and Via delle Botteghe. A mix of luxury shops, restaurants and exclusive hotels. But Capri is also Tragara, Tuoro and Pizzolungo places of peace and tranquility immersed in the extraordinary beauty of the landscape. Vegetation and natural limestone cliffs, the Grotta Azzurra, the Faraglioni and the Monte Solaro make Capri the most fascinating island of the Mediterranean.

The artist was inspired by the light effects on the side of the island as he sailed by, photographed this and later drew and painted this scene representing his approach.
