Artist's description:

these are how the coastal rocks of maine feel to me. on a bright summer afternoon walking along the shore. are they actually these colors? no. this is how they feel.

a modern scroll painting from my ongoing series of coastal nature.

traditionally scrolls were vehicles for displaying calligraphy/painting, capturing a feeling of nature/an idea, to be hung to set a mood, and changed often to match an occasion/season—perhaps 72 times a year! my reinvention of japanese "kakejiku" are on synthetic fiber similar in appearance to rice paper, but stronger, waterproof and tear-resistant, and framed, ie, hung on black rods along the top and bottom edges. it arrives rolled in a box, ready to hang with one small nail (included).
