The Shape of Perfume 29 (Camellia) Painting
The Shape of Perfume series
Obscure, obscured, memories, intentions indiscernible, floating beyond reach, ephemeral. The paintings in this series are many layered, painted over years, with older drawings and paintings below the surface, some of which are visible, others not.
Accessing the deep and subconscious dreams and desires that perfume and scent awakens.
Painted with earth ochre pigments, and acrylic paint. Remnants of gold pigments show beneath parts of the painting.
Inspired by a visit to the ancient frescoes on the wall of the Chapter House at Westminster Abbey, of which only small remnants are visible, Also by the history of perfume, its links with medicine and science, theology and culture and Marcel Prousts 'À la recherche du temps perdu'
The painting will be removed from the stretcher and rolled for shipping.
