Artist's description:

This painting forms part of a series reflecting the light and heat of southern France and was painted as a demonstration piece featured in the April, 2016, edition of Leisure Painter (published February, 2016) where you can read about the whole process of creating the picture.

The picturesque Provençal town of Roussillon is famous for its ochre quarries, from which artists' pigments are still extracted, and whose bright reds, oranges and yellows are used to decorate the render of the buildings.

The painting captures the light, shade and contrasting colours of a hot summer's day. The canvas is painted around the edges and can be hung framed or unframed.
