This large original acrylic painting offers a contemporary element with its heavily textured and abstract background created using palette knives, whilst the butterflies afford much finer detail. The butterflies and bees have been painted using brushes yet still offer a degree of texture in order to create that which is something more than a 2D piece of art. Many years ago I visited a butterfly house at Berkeley Castle in the UK with my children and took the opportunity to take many photographs. Since this time I have been somewhat fascinated with butterflies for their colour, pattern and sheer beauty. My youngest daughter continues to photograph nature and wildlife and inspires many of my paintings as a result.
