Artist's description:

Michael Forbes will appear in the Channel 4 ''Four Rooms'' show to be broadcast on 21st July 2014. He was invited to feature after he painted a portrait of the dealer Celia Sawyer which she sat in front of for the whole of series 3. Background: The painting ''Burger King'' is part of a series of paintings where popular culture logos and celebrities have been chopped up and mashed back together to form new icons for the 21st century. ''Burger King'' is a comment not only on the diet of the king (Elvis) but of consumerism. It is a fine example of Popsurrealism the art movement Forbes is very much associated with, having been chosen to represent the UK in an international exhibition of the main Popsurrealists in the world today at the Strychnin Gallery, Berlin. Forbes does not not consider himself entirely self taught, He worked as an assistant to Pop artist Gerald Laing in his youth, and says '' I learned more from Gerald Laing than any art school education could provide'' Michael's work is in many collections abroad and in the UK. Collectors include Ricky Gervais and Monty Python Terry Gilliam. He was selected to paint the Millennium poster for the London Underground, and his work is on show at the Museum of London Transport. He was also selected to represent the future of animal painting in the 2007 Blue Cross exhibition ''Animals in Art'' opened by the Queen. This show allowed Forbes to exhibit with every major British artist from Gainsburgh to Hockney at Sotheby's. He has also shown along side all the major pop artists Warhol, Lichtenstein and Indiana at the Opera Gallery exhibition ''In the Mood for Pop'' on New Bond Street London. His work is currently on show in Manhattan New York, with Pop Gallery, where he regularly exhibits with artists better known for their music, such as Ringo Starr, Ronnie Wood and most recently Bob Dylan. Earlier this year he was the first artist to exhibit at The Ivy (restaurant) in London, taking over the entire top floor. With Monty Python Terry Gilliam in attendance. The show was organized by Terry's daughter Holly.
