Artwork description:

This is macro photography of British soldier lichen (or Cladonia cristatella).
They've got such a name for the look of their fruiting bodies (apothecia), which resemble the red hats worn by invading British troops during the American Revolutionary War.

I snapped this lichen in the forest of South Sweden in spring 2020 when their apothecia have a more intense red color. I was captured by the beautiful combination of calm gray and bright, provocative red. And when I looked at them through the macro lens of the camera, I was surprised to find this beauty with the open fruiting body. I was impressed by how beautifully it was opened, like it had been carefully cut—what a geometry! Amazing Nature!

The photo is printed in a limited edition, using Hahnemuehle fine art paper and archival pigment inks.

Each print is signed, numbered, and comes with the certificate.

🌿 The print is installed in the PH-neutral passpartout with the backing, common size 30x30cm. Ready for framing.

Actual size of the image - 20 x 20 cm - edition of 25
