"I am happy to paint beautiful Bristol landscapes using bright deep colours and impasto technique, where paint is laid on an area of the surface in very thick layers, usually thick enough that the brush or painting-knife strokes are visible. When dry, impasto provides texture; the paint appears to be coming out of the surface", says Jemal Gugunava, the Georgian/British artist, who splits his time between Bristol, Prague and Tbilisi.
