This is a tribute painting to David Bowie.
David himself said he was obscure, confrontational and felt he was from outerspace. He was extremely private and shy despite being a rather theatrical performer. He was said to be very gentle, and sophisticated. I have tried my utmost to depict my impression of that grand and very influential artist from all the bio-facts I was able to gather.
I must report a strange and funny occurence while painting this portrait. As I started my Jeep the radio went on with the Bowie's FAME song. First, I do not normally turn on the radio as I enjoy silent driving (my life partner had turned on the radio the previous day) and second, it is very rare that Bowie's old tunes are being played at all. So, I thought to myself, is this a sign that David liked this portrait I made of him? In any case, I enjoyed all the research behind this artwork as I feel it is very respectful of David Jones (Bowie) as both a person and an artist. Thus the title Bow to Thee, meaning I incline my head in respect and also referring to his love of theater (thee being an Old English formulation used in Shakesperian plays.)
The background of this artwork uses various pastes and imprints so to give movement and unusual effects to acrylic inks.
