Botanica is a very large abstract painting measuring 224 x 142 x 3cm. It has been created on two panels (Diptych) each measuring 112 x 142 x 3cm.
Botanica, a window onto a garden. Lush, feral, wild beauty, A blue violet storm of perfume surrounded by crooked ghost stalks of savage primal roses reaching up toward the light. My garden, left to fallow is raw in its beauty. Hidden corners filled with food for bees and butterflies. If I could choose a single gift to give to all mankind it would be a wild untamed corner of my garden. This place is raw and strong and perilous, filled with thorns and stinging nettles… but the beauty here is divine, and the scent is intoxicating. Wild thyme and sweet musk roses, humble violets and dandelions. Shades of sea green and lilac with dark shadows underneath.
My inspiration for this large dramatic painting is a wild corner of my garden. In this painting I wanted to bring the colours of nature into a room. The painting is essentially abstract, but as the viewer focusses on it a botanical symphony appears. A wild primal garden. I have used colour to signify what the garden is to me and then used different painting techniques to suggest flower and plants. The painting is on two panels each measuring 112 x 142 x 3 cm giving a total painting size of 224 x 142 x 3cm. The boxed edges are painted black and the painting has been coated with a satin varnish. Botanica is ready to hang.
