Original artwork description:

Sun dipping low on bluebell woods.

Painted on a prepared hardboard panel.
I find that the colours applied to prepared board stand up, and give a greater intensity, and I've switched from canvas, where initial painting sinks into the medium
and can show as rather dull.
Panels are easy to frame, I find that most art buyers often have specific ideas on framing and want to choose their own frame style.
This is perhaps because of a preference for a certain style or because it has to fit into the general ambiance of their home.
In fact many buyers already have a vision of where a painting will go before they even purchase it.

This painting depicts the sun sinking towards the horizon, with the late daylight slanting through the bowls of the trees.
The low sun give a redder effect that totally changes the colouration of a scene. Here the carpet of bluebells have taken on a purple hue,
flaring to reds and pinks under the direct light.
Bluebell woods are an iconic part of the countryside where I live in the hills just north and west of London.
They are a theme I have painted again and again, in many different weathers and lighting conditions.

in this painting I have used an approach where I build up solid areas using strokes rather than blocking in. In this way I can represent the cascade of light
and retain the textural quality of the forest floor.
