This painting was inspired by a photo taken by my son when he visited Chefchauoen in Morocco. The image of a snapshot through a doorway was intensely blue and I was fascinated by the almost monochrome aspect which gave even more impact to the light and shade.
The edge of a cupboard showed down the side of the stairs and there was a hint of clothing, probably cloaks or robes, hanging just inside the doorway.
I took artist's licence and intensified the colour of the cupboard to draw the viewer right down the side of the stairway. So what do you want to see? What's up those stairs? Or a peek round the corner into the room with the red cupboard.
