I've always been fond of this old coffee pot although we haven't made coffee in it for years. I love its deep ultramarine blue colour and all the interesting reflections generated in its shiny surface. It has featured in a number of my paintings. This work came into being when I was working with a student in her conservatory. She always asked that I position my easel in front of hers so that she could see me working and draw inspiration from my painting. I had taken the pot and tea towel with me for the session and was delighted that the tea she offered came in a mug with blue bands that matched the blue of the pot. A few items of fruit from the kitchen added some splashes of contrasting colour to complete the still life.
