Artist's description:

I created this work initially as an experiment, but the dynamism of the work - a combination of black ink drawing and blue ink brushstrokes - achieved a better result than I expected.

As with much of my work, I attempt to strike a balance between the formalism of the cog structures, and the balance of the colour and pattern. In this instance, the image achieves a balance of structural strength and soft colour, creating a calming image.

I have been creating 'cog' based images as part of my work for years, but felt that I had begun to seek precision over the beauty of the piece. This rather more informal work is a step away from that mindset.

It has since become a sort-of logo for my work and I feel that it demonstrates some of the range of techniques I like to use in my work.
