Some days, we can use a reminder that happiness is right there in front of us -imperfections and all- if we'll just shift our perspective.
This piece of happiness is painted around the side of the painting, where we can see the whole, droll bird when we change our point of view. Just the thing to calibrate our mindset and lift our spirits should we forget.
The birch surface has become a favorite of mine to work on. It's also a fairly expensive substrate, but when I can afford to buy, I do! The wood panels are nice and solid, have a subtle tooth and are made locally using sustainable wood--so we are being responsible to our planet as well as the local community. From a technical stand-point, this solid wood is much less fragile than fabric stretched on a wood frame, and allows me to use an exuberant hand without concern.
