Artist's description:

My inspiration for this painting came from the story of Lizzie Andrew Borden (July 19, 1860 – June 1, 1927). She was an American woman who gained infamy in being tried and acquitted for the 1892 axe murders of her father and stepmother in Fall River, Massachusetts.
The folk poem that accompanies this story, and I have known it from childhood, is...

Lizzie Borden took an axe
And gave her mother forty whacks.
When she saw what she had done,
She gave her father forty-one...

The "murder of crows" is symbolic of the grim deed and in the painting the feet of Bloody Mary's victim can be seen under the tree on the right.
Its all done very tongue-in-cheek.
