Artist's Description:

This piece is from a small and playful body of paintings and drawings, based upon my sketchbook work. Blind Drawn Batman is taken from a particular group of sketches that were drawn without looking at the page. The interesting thing about this way of drawing is that there is an exciting discrepancy between the visualization in the mind of the artist and what appears on the paper. What is lost in accuracy is more than made up for in fluidity and dynamism of line. It also offers a freedom of expression on a level that the conscious mind often blocks.

The series was originally conceived as a limited run of mini artworks for the Rob Pruitt's Flea Market pop-up project which took place at the A Plus A Gallery during the opening week of the 2015 Venice Biennale.

However, because of the positive response to the work, and because they've been fun to work on, I've decided to continue the series for a little longer. I also like the fact that they offer a fun and affordable way of collecting small but original pieces from my body of work, without having to pay the £2000-£20000 price tag that my larger pieces fetch in the galleries.

The majority of the paintings and drawings in this series are executed on 20 x 15 cm blocks (some pieces vary in size so check the individual artwork listings for exact sizes) of 1.8 cm thick plywood, and designed to hang unframed, as wall plaques.

Materials used:

acrylic paint, ink, plywood
