Artist's description:

The so called “Black Villages” are located in the Guadalajara province, 140 Km NE of Madrid. For centuries their inhabitants have used slate as the main construction material for their homes and public buildings, which gave rise to the “Black Architecture”.
It is raining, early in the morning. Only the wet roofs and the wet floor reflect some light. Only the grass, growing bravely between the slate slabs, reminds us that the world has not turned totally black and white. I have purposely emphasized this B & W atmosphere in this painting, to convey some of the feelings that this peculiar architecture produces on the visitor. I fell in love with the “Black Villages” at first sight and have painted them repeatedly.
