Artist's description:

Black Ribbon is a stunning Mix Media assemblage triptych. The idea for this piece came to me as part of the trifecta for our Deja Vu Show, as I was working on my trashion piece "Aurora" for our 2015 ecoFAB Trash Couture. I have been coiling for almost 10 years but I had never, until Aurora, created purely black and white coils. I started making the myriad of coils i need for any of my pieces. Once I had a good solid fifty coils I started sewing the cord together and around the coils and adding a variety of fabrics for texture and tint. I added some found objects for fun and distraction. As usual this entire piece is made from salvaged materials and all hand made by me. I built the three panels from scratch with salvaged wood from a wood shop that belongs to friends of mine. Then I sewed and constructed the two cord and paper pieces to stretch onto two of the panels. The third panel I knew I had to make it light and airy to balance harmony in-between the fibrous two due to the volume of work entailed in them. I chose to use the pearlescent aluminum poly cotton material I salvaged from a trip to the dump and painted the black ribbon to tie it all in. this piece is absolutely magnificent, opulent, full of movement. For gallery hanging I screwed the three panels together and I will keep them screwed together for you to choose wether you want them together and hang from two nails or separate them and hang from 6 nails.
