Artist's description:

On the fringes of Black Park, country park in South Bucks, this scene of cleared forest devastation has finally moved me to paint it. Fringed with mature trees the bright red land is a carpet of wood bark and debris from felled trees. The sun, on my right, is flickering through Birch branches. I'm seated at the side of a footpath that leads into Black Park's north side and annoyed by a barking dog but I pursue my subject with some enthusiasm. What colour is the bark of the Silver Birch and how deep is the underpainting for the tangle of fern beneath them? Just remember – work from dark to light and don't get caught-up in detail. How long till lunch…
