This is one of my flowers to music paintings. The album I chose to listen to when painting this is Bai Kamara's soulful 'Urban Gypsy.' Black orchids are rare gems and I wanted this painting to be bold but not overstated. It uses few colours, but just enough highlights to keep it from being a complete silhouette and give it some depth. It will though appear almost as a silhouette in a dark area which is intentionally created.
With some of my works I like to be able to feel the paint on the canvas, this is inspired from Van Gogh. This painting is not flat to the canvas and has some depth. The sides of the canvas are finished with the painting continuing around the edges to the back of the artwork.
The paint used is mostly acrylic on top of tissue paper which gives the painting a slightly extra dimensional effect and brings out a reflective play of light.
