Artist's description:

Painted on New Year's Eve on a piece of cardboard, artwork is framed.

Having painted many of my canvases black in order to make the pictures pop, I had wanted to try a different surface color.

As a kid, I remember in art class staining paper with coffee, which created a nice weathered or antique look.

Also, I had been intrigued by colors that sort of blend in with the surface and don't easily pop out at you unless you look at it from a different angle.

I think I accomplished that with the gold in this work as it camouflages with the surface fairly well and pops out and shimmers depending on the angle you look at it or depending on the light source.

Materials used:

Acrylic paint, cardboard

Black and White with Red and Gold (2015)
