Big Sun Rising is an experimental piece of work, like a sketch, inspired by travelling through northern Spain towards Zaragoza earlier this year. The roads were long, and nearly empty, and the landscape vast, spreading for miles seemingly in every direction towards mountains and sea and ancient looking villages and towns. It was some of the most beautiful landscape I have ever seen and the colours are all in me waiting to come out, as are the huge skies, and of course the sun which emerged each morning like a big golden Christmas bauble. This is a prelude to larger pieces which I am eager to start.
It is framed in a hand-made contemporary style box frame by mental health service users at Shrub Hill Workshop in Worcester under the tuition of carpenter Les Simms.
