Artist's description:

This work is inspired by the pilgrimage of the agony lady. Here are represented the big heads and gigantones. The gigantone is a puppet human figure with 3.5 to 4 meters high, typical of Portuguese folk festivals, pilgrimages and processions carnival. The doll has a structure that allows you to "dress" and handled by a person inside. The large head made of paper pulp, and the rest of the structure can reach thirty pounds.
The gigantones appear not alone but in pair or groups of couples, wearing black ties or popular, and parading to the rhythm of music played by drums. the big heads are smaller dolls (the size of a person) with a huge head and disproportionate relative to the body. The head, also made in paper pulp, is used as a kind of helmet, and the clothes are more casual and colorful than those of gigantones and may even embody monsters or demons. With greater freedom of movement that gigantones, the stubborn dance and move joyfully as a ranch of children or an animated cut around them.
This study has some three-dimensionality because I represented the big heads and gigantones in its original material: paper pulp.
Here you can see some videos of this tradition:
