Acrylic painting on deep edged canvas, unframed. I painted this en plein air at the lilly ponds in Bosherston in Pembrokeshire this May. It was a very hot and still afternoon where bees and many insects kept up a busy hum. After painting in bright sunlight for some hours, it was a relief to find a shady spot to paint in. I was fascinated by the deep shadows and reflections within reflections under the trees. The light on the distant lilly pads and water, was so bright against the dark tree outlines, it hurt my eyes. The painting was finished in the studio.
