Question for the artist?

Artist's description:

This is a reduction linoprint of our furry friend 'Belle' entranced by the falling leaves and raindrops from the safety of the windowsill inside the house.

It was an unusually rainy and stormy day outside. Our cat, Belle, spent the whole day looking at the grey day outside from my daughter's windowsill, keeping her company through her exam revision, and feeling a tad disgruntled. Belle brings new surprises every day to our household.

The muted colours affords a dreamy quality and it will suit most interior colour schemes.

This linoprint perfectly captures the lazy mood of the day, in its muted tones, when the greys dominate, and the feeling inside and outside is one of quiet contemplation. I also think that it encapsulates the muted theme so well because it communicates the feelings and desires of our cat without having verbalised it.

Inspired by a photo that my daughter M took of Belle that day.

A reduction print is a relief print formed by cutting away layers of lino, as each colour layer is consecutively built up, hence it being a reductive method. This means that nothing (or not much) of the design is left once the prints are all completed. Hence, the number of prints are limited, and each is hand printed. Variations can occur between them, making each one truly original. Also, the layering gives each print an unique textural quality which distinguishes the handmade prints from reproductions. There might be one or two tiny ink marks right at the very edge of the paper due to the handmade printing process, but these do not detract from the print in any way at all, and will be hidden after framing.

This work is printed with oil-based inks on 210 gsm printing acid-free paper and has a beautiful matt finish. It is numbered, titled and signed at the bottom.

The image measures 10 x 15 cm.

The print is sent loose and unframed in a reinforced envelope with an attractive acid-free tissue wrapping and mount board backing from my studio 'Hedge and Hog' in north-west of England. It should fit most standard frames.
