Being Human #2 is one of the earliest examples of this artistic technique and this artwork depicts the cycle of deforestation. The end result is a solitary tree that is surrounded by bare land and tree stumps and a field of crops. The semi naturalistic scenery has no painterly brush strokes or thickly applied paint; the whole image is constructed out of paper and ink, with rich vibrant leaves individually created and hand painted.
When you first view the paper art, you cannot help but take in the overall beauty - the atmosphere and stillness the art has created -you want to reach out to the scene and feel it on your fingertips. You want to touch it. And then you reflect some more, and you start looking more closely, and you notice the picture is void of any life. Bingham had wanted to make an art that was semi naturalistic and created in relief - with leaves that were individual and a texture to enliven the pictures surface.
Being Human #2 has been created in relief, and projects from the supporting background.
