Original artwork description:
This was inspired by the most recent lockdown of 2021.
I felt that beyond the frustration of being stuck at home again, there had to be a plus side, which is the extra time I get to have with my family.
I really wanted to depict the lock as being something dark, but necessary. I studied Victorian locks for my inspiration, and chose to use copper gilding flakes for effect.
I then painted a rose-like flower that I wanted to have a brightness to it to be seen shining through the other side of the lock.
The painting is 3 dimensional so that you can literally look inside and see more of the hidden flower if you wish.
Materials used:
Watercolour paints, black 300gsm paper and white 300gsm paper, copper gilding flakes
