Rocks on Baslow Edge. A high quality pigment print on Hahnemühle cotton rag 300gsm paper mounted on archival board. I make all prints taking care to get the best from my original 6x6 film negative. Print will fit Ikea Riba 23×23 cm frame: 000.780.51
My fascination with the local landscape focusses on the detail rather than the vista. I prefer to look down and see what is around me rather than being preoccupied with the distant view.
For this project I chose to return to black and white film because I felt that colour would have been a distraction. Many of the images are more graphic in nature with line, form and pattern making the composition.
The other decision that affects the composition and look of the prints was to use a twin lens reflex camera with 120 medium format film producing 2.25 inch or 6cm square negatives. I feel that the square format is ideal for the images I wanted to make as it gets away from the wider rectangular formats used for traditional landscapes. It also helps to contain more intimate compositions which suits the subjects that interested me.
