Artist's description:

This Barn Owl painting has been made entirely out of Merino Wool plus a little linen fibre has also been added.

Two felting techniques have been used to make my Barn Owl painting, using mainly Merino wool, firstly the base is wet felted, this is the traditional method using soap, warm water and a little elbow grease! The next stage is to add the Barn Owl, for this I use the more modern felting technique of needle felting or dry felting, by using a barbed felting needle I subtly blend the coloured wools and linen fibres to effectively paint with wool.

What I’m aiming for is a simple charming painting where the handmade felted background with all its little subtle imperfections is just as important as the animal itself and by using felt as a medium gives the paintings a lovely depth along with the slightly unpredictable final wet felt, this gives every animal it’s own unique character!
