"Bandage" is a series of four portraits. In these portraits I wanted to explore the feelings of insecurity, vulnerability and need for a comfort zone. I believe that beauty comes from such complexities of human nature. I used materials like vinyl fabric, clear acrylic sheets and tissue paper, which urges the viewer to see beneath the surface.

"Bandage" paintings can either stand alone or be presented as a series. In each painting there is a figure, in a simple composition, sitting and staring at the viewer. They are seated comfortably to a chair but still demanding some kind of acceptance. They are covered by or almost wrapped in costumes which look like colored bandages that we use to cover a scar. The light pastel colors show the delicateness, the weakness or may be the weightlessness of their situation. I used photos from the daily newspapers/magazines. These figures do not represent any personalities but themselves.

I start my paintings with watercolor or ink. This enables me to see the figuration in photographic values. Then I add layers of dry media or collage. For this series, I preferred transparent layers like clear vinyl fabric, clear acrylic sheets or tissue paper. They create an illusion of depth both on the surface and in the context. Coincidence is the other element in these paintings. I am open to use or even look for e.g. unwanted paint stains, collage materials with broken edges, torn-up papers. They represent my touch to the subject in various ways.
