Artist's description:

I live in Bacup, my studio is in Bacup and many of my family live in Bacup.
Bacup is a small town in the Valley of Rossendale on the edge of the Northern Moors. Mostly its the year 1642 in Bacup and very little seems to happen here.
When I was a child I would go out wandering on the hills and moors and create, be gifted with, or remember stories from times long past. The path where giants once walked and the great steps where they would sit and contemplate their lives. The valley they created by throwing great boulders the size of hills. The overhanging rocks where my Ancestors once lived in an unimaginable world lost in deep time.
I would go on walks between these places and recite the stories in my mind. When I looked out of my bedroom window as a child I used to dream that giants slept under the great hills of our valley. Its only as I got older that I discovered they really do!

Our lives are full of nails. Big ones, small ones. Ones that are deeply embedded into the wood of our reality and ones that are hanging half out, waiting to be removed or replaced Our lives are full of invisible nails, holding the boards together, creating stability; ensuring our world never falls apart.

In Siberia, a certain level of Shaman is granted the 'iron antlered headdress' to wear as a symbol of their progression in learning along their path. Originally these were made by a Blacksmith who was the ninth son of a ninth son. Im not sure if there are many of these Blacksmiths left. Ive seen quite a few people try to recreate these in the west, but they always look like a sad shadow of their real counterparts. As my Dad might say, 'nothing that a coat of paint wont solve!'.
