This painting is of a bright dawn with a few retreating stormclouds.
This was painted from a real sunset off my back porch, looking across the Salton Sea in California. Along the bottom edge of the painting are two silhouetted trees with birds. The following poem is written as the lower branches of the two trees:
Awaken to birdsong, nature's music. Awaken to sky, nature's art.
This is an original refractured watercolor painting, 14x14" on gallery wrap panel about 1" deep - so the painting continues on the sides and does not need to be framed, despite the fact it is a watercolor. It is glazed with a protective gloss glaze and wired ready to be hung.
When viewed in oblique light, the texture of the refracture of the watercolor is most evident.
Refracturing is when I paint the scene in its entirety, then cut it up and collage it back together again.
